Mental health challenges within our children and youth is a serious issue we face today, impacting a significant percentage of Canadians. It is estimated that as many as 1 in 5 children and youth in Ontario will experience some form of mental health problem.

Hacking to Help

Here’s an opportunity to challenge yourself and take a proactive role in developing solutions to address some of these problems through a Hackathon. On May 11-13, groups of developers, designers, data scientists, business innovators and general enthusiasts will come together to build technology or data-driven solutions to address the following

Develop innovative solutions that address awareness, early detection, prevention and treatment opportunities for child and youth mental health issues.

The teams will be judged on the following 10 point criteria (equal weight for each area):

Simplicity Is the tech used in the project overly complicated?
Originality How original / unique is the project?
Market Readiness How close to market is the state of the project?
Innovation How innovative is the project, versus a marginal improvement?
Usefulness Does the product or service actually have a use case?
Features Does the project include multiple features?
Market Potential How big is the market the team is going after?
Market Analysis Does the team accurately represent the market and the opportunity?

Whether it’s a Blockchain-based application that addresses medication compliance for children and youth suffering from schizophrenia to a smarter way to curate, store and share important data around child and youth mental health issues, the goal of Hack4ChildMentalHealth is to build as many applications and innovations within a 36-hour collaborative environment, and potentially even highlight and promote the need for regulatory and policy advancements!
